Mewburn Ellis LLP is a private practice firm of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys with a tradition of providing a sound training for graduate recruits. This section of our website gives you an idea of what it is like to be a patent or trade mark attorney in the firm, and explains our recruitment process.
If you think you might be interested in a career with us, please read these pages to find out a bit more about what working with us involves.
We are one of the largest firms in the UK and Europe, with 28 partners and 18 other qualified Patent Attorneys, Trade Mark Attorneys and lawyers. We usually have about 18 - 20 people in various stages of training and recruit 6 - 8 new trainees every year. We welcome applications at any time during the year, although our main recruitment does take place from October to March.
Our patent work mainly takes place at the European Patent Office, with some at the UK Patent Office. The work comes from the US, Japan and Europe in about equal amounts, spanning all areas of science and technology. Much of our trade mark work is carried out directly with the UK Trade Mark Office and the Community Trade Mark Office, but we also file on behalf of clients in offices around the world.
You may notice, while reading these web pages, that there is a lot of stress laid upon the fact that becoming a patent or trade mark attorney, and doing the job once qualified, is not easy! Read further and you will realise that this is a stimulating and rewarding career and, if you possess the qualifications and general aptitude, one that may well suit you perfectly. We are always looking for good applicants and, if you like the look of us and the job, we will be happy to receive your application.
We still welcome applicants for our 2008 vacancies, for trademark and patent positions (in all fields of technology).
We hold a series of Open Days in November and December each year. Dates for these are shown on our page on Open Days.
