We have grown rapidly over the last ten years and have a young age profile, with many of the partners and qualified staff being under 40. The firm also offers excellent opportunity for early entrance into partnership.
We recruit a large number of trainees compared with many other firms. This means that there is good support among the trainees, and we believe that our training is organised and of a high quality.
Mewburn Ellis has a very good record in helping people to pass the professional qualification exams. Many of our patent trainees are fully qualified (having passed both UK and European exams) within the minimum possible period of about four years from joining the firm at the end of September.
Around the time of qualification, we encourage trainees to spend a period of two to three months in a foreign firm of patent or trade mark attorneys with the aims of learning more about the law in that country and developing close contacts with the firm. Recent placements have been in the US, Japan and China.
The firm has an excellent and varied client base, both geographically and in terms of subject matter. We encourage trainees and attorneys to develop a proactive relationship with our clients, and to make regular overseas trips to visit both established clients and potential new clients, especially in the US and Japan.
Mewburn Ellis is a friendly and relaxed place to work and is increasingly developing teams of attorneys working in the same subject area and in the same office. This provides good support on a day to day level for discussions of work, for managing peaks in workload and for covering holidays etc.
We can, subject to certain constraints, accommodate flexible working arrangements such as part-time work and telecommuting. We do not, however, consider these to be compatible with the early stages of training.
