Simon has more than 25 years’ experience working as a European and UK patent attorney working in the life sciences sector. He provides clear and practical advice on all aspects of patents and other IP rights including drafting, prosecution, inter partes proceedings and due diligence. He is regularly involved in oppositions and appeals at the European Patent Office and covers a wide variety of technical fields, including physical biochemistry, therapeutics, diagnostics, genetics, chemistry and mechanical subject matter.

Background

Simon has a BSc (Hons.) degree and PhD in biochemistry from the University of Bristol. He worked for the UK Ministry of Defence intellectual property rights department before joining Mewburn Ellis LLP in 1997, qualifying as a European Patent Attorney in 1996 and Chartered Patent Attorney in 1997. He joined the partnership in 1999.

Simon sits on the Life Sciences Committee of the UK Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA).  He has been an examiner for the CIPA qualification exams and is a Member of the Editorial Board of Life Sciences Intellectual Property Review.
