Patent Attorney - Engineering Physics ICT

The role

We’re looking for a high-performing Associate, Senior Associate or IP Director to join our highly successful Technology & Engineering team. This is a newly created role as a result of expansion, which will help us to grow our capacity and capability further and provide a great opportunity for you to develop your expertise and build a long-term career.

With a total headcount of 50 attorneys across all levels, the Mewburn Ellis Technology & Engineering team is Europe’s largest, so expect to be working on significant projects for a range of direct clients including large multi-nationals. These projects are significant in scope and will involve collaboration across offices, both within and beyond the Technology and Engineering Practice Group. 

The work is expected to include a significant focus on consumer products with direct client contact. About 50% of your time will be focussed on patent drafting and around 25% is likely to involve FTO work, with the remainder involving prosecution, landscaping, advisory work and opposition support. This is primarily a fee-earning role, with no business development necessary unless this is an area of interest, in which case we can look to accommodate and develop this as part of your CPD. The role is therefore a relatively traditional attorney position - fast-paced and commercial with a focus on quality and client relations.

About you

An enquiring, solution-orientated mind and a focus on delivering high-quality work are a few traits we look for. You’ll have at least three years’ post-qualification experience and, as you would expect, well-developed mechanical drafting ability and experience is essential. We can consider a variety of backgrounds such as physics and most engineering disciplines. Along with technical expertise, you’ll possess the ability to manage a variety of relationships. Being personable and approachable, with a willingness to continuously learn will also help!
