The role

Mewburn Ellis is seeking a Marketing & Business Development Executive to join our collaborative Marketing & Business Development team in the London office.  

This role has a clear two-part focus. First, the successful candidate will provide dedicated marketing and business development support to our Life Sciences practice group, working closely with attorneys and partners in one of the firm's most strategically important areas. Secondly, they will take responsibility for a defined set of firmwide activities, including legal directories, CRM, research and campaign support.

The successful candidate will work as part of a highly collaborative team, with support from senior colleagues, while taking ownership of specific projects and responsibilities.

The role will have a range of responsibilities which will include:

  • Support the delivery of business development plans for the Life Sciences practice group, which will include, campaign support, pitches, client plans, events, webinars, conferences and client facing activity for the Life Science market.  
  • Using AI and other digital tools appropriately to support research, first drafts, idea generation and synthesis, applying sound judgement and checking outputs carefully before they are shared.
  • Assist with content creation including website updates, social media posts, articles, presentations and marketing materials.
  • Coordinate submissions for legal directories and industry awards, working with partners and senior M&BD colleagues, managing deadlines, submissions, referee programmes and supporting information with strong attention to detail.
  • Support the team in using CRM, reporting tools and AI-enabled functionality in a confident, responsible and commercially useful way.
  • Undertake client, market and sector research to support business development activity across the firm, analysing relevant data and trends to inform campaigns, client conversations and planning. 

This is a hybrid role and will be based from our London office on 50/50 basis.

About you

AWe’re looking for someone with strong marketing and business development experience, ideally gained in professional services. A background in IP or a law firm isn’t essential for this role, though both would be advantageous. What you do need is to be commercial, dynamic and ambitious and want a role where you are part of a strong team that all work together to get the job done. What matters most though is your enthusiasm and drive. 

The role would suit someone who enjoys turning plans into action, building strong internal relationships and using insight, organisation and good judgement to help generate opportunities, strengthen client relationships and raise the firm's profile. We are also looking for someone who is comfortable using technology, including AI tools, to work smarter, improve the quality of outputs and help the team adopt practical, responsible new ways of working. 

Experience within Life Sciences, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, MedTech or another science-led sector and managing or supporting legal directory submissions would be advantageous.

You will be organised, adaptable, and able to manage your time effectively. Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach are essential. Accuracy and consistency are crucial to ensure all internal and external communications align with the firm’s tone and brand.

Technical skills that will help you succeed: 

  • Advanced MS Office skills
  • Knowledge and comfortable in using AI and digital tools as part of day-to-day work, with the curiosity to test new approaches and the judgement to use them responsibly.
  • Experience using HubSpot or another CRM system
  • Experience using specialist research tools, such as IP Pilot, to support client, market, competitor or sector research
