Today (5 September) marks the UN's International Day of Charity, a day dedicated to recognising the power of charitable giving, volunteering and collective action in building a fairer, more sustainable world.

At Mewburn Ellis, that commitment is reflected in the way we support the communities around us throughout the year.

Supporting our communities is more than an annual commitment. Through our Forward Community Programme Charity Fund, we donate 1% of our profits each year, ensuring community giving remains embedded in our culture and values. Since 2020, our combined charitable contributions have exceeded £1.3 million, alongside dedicated volunteering time, payroll giving and matched fundraising initiatives.

Charities making a difference

That ongoing commitment is reflected in the charities and projects we support. Over the past year, we have continued to support organisations driving positive change in health, inclusion, sustainability and local communities. This includes supporting the National Literacy Trust's work to improve literacy and establish libraries in schools, funding women's health research through Wellbeing of Women, supporting people experiencing homelessness through The Booth Centre, providing funding for London's Air Ambulance, and backing organisations including Jonathan's Voice, Not a Phase and Race Equality Matters. Through both firmwide and local partnerships, our community programme is focused on creating meaningful, lasting impact where it matters most.

Sustainability in action

Sustainability remains a key focus of our community programme. We support charities and initiatives working to protect and restore the environment, including Project Earth, Action for Conservation, Rewilding Britain and Thousand Year Trust. Alongside these partnerships, we continue to invest in our own environmental initiatives, including the Mewburn Forest, employee-led sustainability projects and wider efforts to reduce our environmental impact as a firm. By combining charitable giving with practical action, we aim to support both immediate environmental challenges and longer-term sustainability goals.

Giving back beyond donations

Community giving at Mewburn Ellis extends far beyond financial donations. Everyone at the firm receives a dedicated community day each year to support causes they care about, we operate a payroll giving scheme, and we match colleagues' fundraising efforts. Whether volunteering in local communities, supporting charity events, mentoring initiatives or fundraising campaigns, our people play an active role in helping to deliver positive change throughout the year.

Recognised for responsible business

Our approach to community giving and responsible business has also received external recognition. Mewburn Ellis has achieved an EcoVadis Gold rating and received recognition from CDP for its environmental disclosure and performance, reflecting our commitment to operating responsibly and creating a positive impact for our people, communities and the environment. These recognitions sit alongside the efforts of colleagues across the firm who continue to champion and support causes that matter to them.

Mewburn Ellis Community Champion Maria Hall comments:

"Charitable giving has always been about more than writing a cheque. It's about using our success to make a meaningful difference in the communities where we live and work. I'm incredibly proud that, together, we've donated more than £1.3 million since 2020, supporting organisations that create opportunities, tackle inequality and help people thrive. The passion and generosity shown by our people continues to demonstrate the positive impact we can achieve when we work together."
