A visit to The Booth Centre — Manchester office to support charity over next two years

The Booth Centre is a charity that our Manchester Office have chosen to support over the next two years. The centre provides direct support to people in the Manchester area who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Mewburn Ellis LLP is donating £30k to the centre over the next two years, and this money is contributing to a kitchen upgrade that will allow the centre to provide more food, as well as to provide training and qualifications for people looking to find employment in the hospitality industry.

On Wednesday 23 August, a group of six volunteers from our Manchester Office (James Leach, Tamara Rubery, Mathew Cresswell, Victoria Moore, Jack Davies, and Denise Diedrick-St Cyr) spent a morning at the centre using the firm’s community day scheme. During their time at the centre, our volunteers helped serve breakfast and lunch, and took part in group activities that included crafting and working on the centre’s community garden. Our volunteers also spent time talking to people using the centre, to gain an understanding of their lives and how the centre was supporting them.

As part of their visit, our volunteers brought a collection of items generously donated by our staff in Manchester Office (see image below). Almost as soon as they had arrived, they saw the donated toiletries being handed out at reception, and some of the food items being served at breakfast. So it was lovely to see these donations make an immediate impact.

It was fantastic to see the great work being done by the Booth Centre, and the impact this work is having on the lives of people in the Manchester area.

"We are incredibly grateful to Mewburn Ellis for its generous support of Booth Centre and were delighted to be joined by the team of volunteers.  Booth Centre currently welcomes 80-100 people every day and serve more than 800 hot meals each week.  Thanks to Mewburn Ellis, we can continue to deliver a range of services to support people from across the city out of homelessness into accommodation, employment and training."
