We’re supporting the Manchester Library Trail for a full year

We’re proud to be supporting the Manchester Library Trail for a full year, a brilliant community initiative dedicated to promoting, maintaining and creating little libraries across Greater Manchester. Originally set up during the COVID pandemic, its mission is to provide barrier-free access to books for everyone in the community.

Our support helps sustain not only the physical libraries themselves, but also the wider infrastructure that brings them to life, including an up-to-date map and website showcasing all locations. The initiative also produces printed maps, hosts pop-up events to raise awareness, and runs an online book club to connect readers and encourage a shared love of books. The first purchase from our funding has already been made: a replacement for a well-loved little library known as “The Hutch”, which had begun to fall apart. A new hutch has now been installed, along with paint and materials to secure it in place.

We’re also proud to support the Ladybarn Community Hub, where a children’s bookshelf has recently been added to the book corner. The centre is home to four Literacy Champions, each passionate about both literacy and sustainability. Their work is supported by a range of community schemes, including tablet and ink cartridge recycling bins, upcycling craft groups, and a twice-weekly gardening club where fruit and veg are grown and used in the lunch club. Over the summer, the little free libraries had a stall at the Hub’s Green Fair, sharing second-hand books and promoting the trail to local residents.

This work forms part of our broader involvement with the National Literacy Trust, through which we’re helping to bring literacy to life across the UK, you can read more about that here.
