Andrew specialises in the chemistry sector, but his work covers a wide range of fields including the mechanical industry. Andrew has over 10 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.

Areas of Expertise

Organic chemistry:

Andrew is primarily involved in a significant amount of agency work for Japanese associates, as well as working for US associates and European-based companies.


He has a BSc (Hons.) in applied chemistry from Huddersfield Polytechnic (now the University of Huddersfield) and a PhD in organic chemistry from Leeds University; seven papers were published based on his PhD research. Andrew also won prizes from Leeds University for his PhD thesis and the research he carried out.  He carried out post-doctoral research at York University, which subsequently led to the filing of a patent application and the publication of further papers.

Andrew worked for several years in the chemical industry prior to joining the patent profession. He has considerable experience in patent matters and has been a fully qualified Patent Attorney (EU and UK) since 2010. He is also a qualified Trade Mark Attorney and a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Andrew joined Mewburn Ellis LLP in 2019.
