Working in our life sciences team, Andrew is experienced in drafting and prosecuting patent applications for local and international clients. Primarily, he works with clients who are early innovators in their fields, such as universities and start-ups, and his work covers a range of technical areas. He also has extensive experience with Freedom to Operate (FTO) projects where, in addition to providing infringement opinions and patent landscape analysis, he coordinates teams handling larger projects for multinational organisations.

Clients
Andrew’s clients are principally UK, Singapore and international universities, as well as university tech transfer departments and university spin-outs and start-ups. He works primarily with clients in Europe and the US, but has carried out prosecutions in India, Chile, Argentina, Ukraine and other jurisdictions.
Background
Andrew has a Masters degree in natural sciences from the University of Cambridge and a PhD from the University of Liverpool that focused on research into regulatory transcription factors that affect the plant circadian clock. This included two years on secondment at the RIKEN Yokohama Institute in Japan. He joined Mewburn Ellis LLP in 2015, qualifying as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2018 and European Patent Attorney in 2021.
