Helen Eastmond

Helen is a UK & European Patent Attorney in the chemistry and materials team. Her work spans a diverse range of technologies, from process chemistry and chemical compositions to medical devices and consumer products. This breadth of experience allows her to work confidently with inventions drawing on multiple technical disciplines. She is adept at getting to grips with complex technologies, identifying the key technical and legal issues, and developing clear, persuasive strategies tailored to her clients’ commercial objectives.

Helen is experienced across the patent lifecycle, from drafting and prosecution through to contentious proceedings. She particularly enjoys the detailed technical analysis and strategic thinking involved in challenging and defending patents.

Helen works with a diverse client base, ranging from local innovators to large multinational companies in the industrial chemistry and consumer products sectors, as well as international attorneys. She values working closely with clients to understand both the scientific principles underpinning their technologies and the wider commercial context in which they operate.

Qualifications and Technical Background

Helen holds a first-class MSci degree in Natural Sciences, specialising in Chemistry, from the University of Cambridge. Her final year research focused on new materials for carbon dioxide capture, leading to a publication in Nature and a family of pending patent applications on which she is named as an inventor.

Professional Career

Helen joined Mewburn Ellis LLP in 2022 and passed the Bournemouth University Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law with Distinction in 2023. She qualified as a Chartered UK Patent Attorney in 2025 and as a European Patent Attorney in 2026.

Helen is a member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA), and the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (epi).
