Background
Jacob graduated in 2021 with a first-class MChem degree from the University of Warwick. This involved a density functional theory (DFT) driven investigation into the roles of ionic liquid catalysts in facilitating the hot electron photochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction at plasmonic metal surfaces.
Jacob subsequently completed a PGDip in the Modelling of Heterogeneous Systems in 2023, before pursuing a PhD in Computational Chemistry, also at the University of Warwick. During his PhD, he developed software to facilitate the training of machine learned interatomic potentials for large solvated systems in excited adiabatic states. He used this software, alongside DFT and TD-DFT methodologies, to elucidate the excited state behaviour of photoactive molecules (e.g. sunscreen candidates).
He joined Mewburn Ellis in 2026.
