Read our law and practice guidesRachel is a qualified UK Patent Attorney specialising in the chemistry field, with a particular interest in green technologies, including battery systems, and the role of intellectual property in supporting innovation and commercial growth.
She works with a diverse range of clients, from early-stage start-ups and venture-backed companies to established organisations, including those in the pharmaceuticals sector. Rachel enjoys working closely with clients developing innovative technologies and recognises the important role intellectual property plays in supporting investment and long-term development. She has experience in drafting patent applications and prosecution work, supporting applications through to grant.
A key part of Rachel’s experience is her six-month secondment to a leading London-based venture capital firm, where she covered the position of the IP and licensing lead. This provided her with experience of intellectual property work in a commercial setting outside private practice, supporting the assessment and development of innovative businesses, including those in the energy and sustainability space, and gaining insight into how intellectual property underpins investment decisions and long-term growth.
Qualifications and Technical Background
Rachel holds a first-class MChem degree in Chemistry from the University of Oxford. Her final year research focused on osmolytes and their influence on the stability of colloidal systems.
Professional Career
Rachel joined Mewburn Ellis LLP in 2023 and passed the Bournemouth University Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law in 2024. Rachel qualified as a Chartered UK Patent Attorney in 2026.
Published Articles
She has written on the developments in the energy storage sector, including an analysis of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and their role in the “Decade of Energy Storage”, which has been published on the firm’s website.
