Sarah has extensive experience in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, predominantly in the pharmaceutical sector but with a sizeable materials chemistry practice. Sarah also has both offensive and defensive opposition experience and defended several patents covering approved medicines in the EPO’s Opposition procedure.

Sarah works with both UK and international clients, chiefly pharmaceutical companies and universities in the UK and US.
Sarah has a first class MChem chemistry degree from the University of Oxford and a PhD in organic synthesis from the University of Southampton. Her doctorate research focused on the total synthesis of natural products using radical-based approaches. She spent two years conducting postdoctoral research in Southampton, and has also undertaken a research placement with a pharmaceutical process chemistry team. She joined Mewburn Ellis LLP in 2011, qualifying as both a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney, and became a Partner in 2019.
Sarah has previously spent one year on a part-time secondment with the in-house IP department of a FMCG company and three months based in the offices of boutique IP firm in Boston.
Recognised in The Legal 500, 2017 and described as “efficient and reliable”. Sarah has also been listed as a recommended lawyer in the 2021 edition of The Legal 500.
