Background

Thomas graduated from Durham University with an integrated Master’s degree in Physics (MPhys). He was also awarded the Durham Physics Award for Outstanding Achievement. His Master’s research project focused on developing techniques to detect geostationary satellites from image data with increased sensitivity and reliability. During his project, he gained an expertise in building computer algorithms that identified satellites based on the linear trajectory of their apparent motion on a sequence of images of space captured by an Earth-based camera.

Thomas subsequently joined a private practice IP firm, gaining experience in drafting and prosecuting UK and European patent applications across a wide range of electronic and communications technology areas.

He joined Mewburn Ellis in 2025.
