Superfast Patents at the UKIPO – a Consultation
The UKIPO has launched a consultation on the possibility of introducing a new “superfast” patent processing service. The intention is that this service will allow grant in as little as 90 days, on payment of an additional fee.

Two down, two to go? CJEU rejects Italian and Spanish challenges to Unitary Patent
On Tuesday 16 April 2013, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) dismissed the actions brought by Spain and Italy (cases C-274/11 and C-295/11) opposing the use of the ‘enhanced cooperation’ procedure to create a Unitary Patent. However, as recently reported here, two new challenges (against the EU Regulations creating the Unitary system) have since been launched by Spain and the outcome of these will not be known for some time.
