Written work
We require the following piece of written work:
For applications for our Trainee Trade Mark attorney vacancy
Imagine you are about to launch a new drink. Select a trade mark for it and explain in around 500 words why you have selected it.
At Mewburn Ellis we love new technology; working with clients at the forefront of innovation inspires us. We embrace technology in our day-to-day roles too, including the use of advanced, bespoke computer systems and tools and generative AI. Nonetheless, as patent attorneys, the way we use language to describe innovation is nuanced, subtle, and individual.
When it comes to applying to our roles, our experience shows that candidates who rely solely on the use of large language / generative AI models to formulate their applications will limit themselves. We therefore advise against using these tools when preparing your application. The best way for you to show us your potential and facility with language is for you to produce the work independently. We look forward to being impressed by you!
The next step
We are passionate about diversity and inclusion and we are proud to be using Rare Recruitment's Contextual Recruitment System which allows us to consider your achievements in the context in which they were gained. We understand that not every candidate’s achievements look the same on paper – and we want to recruit the best people, from every background. So after sending through your application, we will send you a link to complete a short questionnaire (approx 5 minutes) so you can provide the context for your achievements.
Assessment
When you have submitted your written pieces and been given some time to provide some contextual information via the Rare Recruitment questionnaire we will review your application. If invited for interview you are given the opportunity to discuss your CV, academic achievements and motivations, as well as to ask your own questions about the job. A second interview is held for candidates who are put forward from the first round. Please note both stages are virtual and if you’re successful we’ll arrange an office visit so you can meet the team you’re likely to work with, see the workspace and get a ‘feel’ for our firm and culture.
Application checklist
-
Have you read all of our Graduate Recruitment section? Including the brochure?
-
Have you seen our films? They will hopefully help you understand the kind of work we do, what we value and our priorities so that you can be sure we are the right firm for you.
- Have you provided your CV and covering letter with all necessary information as detailed above including the written work?
- Finally, have you included where you heard about our vacancy in your application email?
Please be aware that we do receive a large number of applications, to all of which we give our full consideration. Be assured that we will respond as soon as we can but, particularly at peak times, this may take a few weeks.
We look forward to receiving your application!
