David is a UK & European Patent Attorney in our chemistry and materials team. He enjoys closely engaging with clients to understand not just their inventions, but their wider commercial goals. David understands the importance of tailoring IP strategies so that they are commercially focused and suit the clients’ specific needs.

David works with clients ranging from early-stage start-ups navigating their first patent filings to large multinational corporations dealing with contentious proceedings and managing large IP portfolios. David takes pride in providing advice that is clear, strategic, and aligned with the broader commercial strategy of the business.

David is experienced at all stages of the patent lifecycle. In particular, David is an expert in drafting patent applications for start-up companies and participating in contentious proceedings for multinational businesses.

Background

David is an advanced materials specialist and has worked on behalf of clients in sectors including advanced polymers, 2D materials, inks, carbon fibres, refrigerants, and batteries.

David joined Mewburn Ellis LLP in 2021 and qualified as a UK and European Patent Attorney in 2025. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Bournemouth University.

David has a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Manchester. His research focused on synthesising new metal-organic frameworks, including 2D metal-organic frameworks. He also holds a first class Master’s (MChem) degree from the University of Nottingham.
