Johannes primarily advises clients who devise technical inventions falling within the field of mechanical engineering or related fields.

For his clients, Johannes prepares and prosecutes patent applications before patent offices in the UK and overseas, primarily Europe and the US. He also advises his clients in relation to contentious issues, particularly with a view to settling disputes out of court. Additionally, Johannes has experience with proceedings before the UK Patent Office relating to matters of inventorship and (in-)validity.

This includes individual inventors and multinationals and just about everything therebetween, such as start-ups, SMEs, universities, and university spin-outs.

Those clients are from around the globe, such as UK, Europe, Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA.

Background

Johannes holds an undergraduate degree in theoretical physics from the University of St Andrews and a postgraduate degree (PhD) in mathematical physics from the University of York. His research was in the Foundations of Quantum Mechanics and involved finding precise mathematical descriptions of the physical observables in certain interferometry applications. He published multiple scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Johannes qualified as a European Patent Attorney whilst working at another firm, and joined Mewburn Ellis and qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2022.
