Read our law and practice guidesLouise is a UK and European Patent Attorney with expertise in the life sciences sector. She has experience working across the patent life cycle, including invention capture, drafting and prosecution, alongside opposition work before the European Patent Office (EPO). In addition, Louise prosecutes large patent portfolios in key jurisdictions across the globe, including Europe, the US, China, Japan, Canada, Australia, Brazil and other South American countries.
Louise advises on patent strategy and portfolio management, and handles due diligence and “freedom to operate” (FTO) projects to help clients secure a strong IP position and navigate complex IP landscapes.
Microbiome and Plant Technologies
Louise has a particular focus on agricultural biotechnologies as part of Mewburn’s Microbiome and Plant teams, and has a growing interest in biostimulants and biocontrol agents for improving plant health and growth.
She works closely with clients in the microbiome and plant sectors to formulate strategies for securing IP protection which best supports their commercial needs.
Louise attends microbiome-focussed events and shares her insights in this space and discusses recent developments in this sector, including innovative methods for tackling antibiotic resistance and solutions to unmet clinical needs.

Her academic research included investigating the immune response to the nucleocapsid protein found within SARS-CoV-2 during her work in a coronavirus research laboratory.

Background
Louise has a first class Masters degree in Biochemistry from the University of Bristol.
After joining Mewburn Ellis in 2021, she qualified as a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in 2025.

Louise is a member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA), and The Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (epi).
