Roger has over 25 years’ experience in the trade mark profession. He is highly skilled in all aspects of trade mark work under the UK, EUTM and Madrid Protocol systems in particular and has vast experience of handling worldwide trade mark portfolios.

Roger has handled oppositions before the UKIPO and EUIPO and has taken proceedings to the General Court. He also has experience in resolving domain name issues before Nominet and WIPO. Roger has a specific interest and extensive experience in the retail sector.

Roger worked with clients operating in a vast array industry sectors, particularly the entertainment, biotechnology, consumer products, energy, food & beverage, industrial chemistry, computer software, pharmaceutical and transport sectors.


Roger has a degree in law from Manchester Metropolitan University and is a Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and of INTA. He joined Mewburn Ellis LLP in 1988 and qualified as a Registered Trade Mark Agent in 1993. Roger later went on to join the partnership in 1999 and become a Consulting Partner in 2019. Before joining Mewburn Ellis LLP Roger worked as a trade mark examiner in the UK Patent Office.

Roger is also a Representative authorised to act before EUIPO. 


Roger is regarded as “knowledgeable” – The Legal 500 (2014), and  “highly recommended” – The Legal 500 (2015).
