Mewburn Ellis welcomes Aled Richards-Jones, expanding litigation offering

We are delighted to announce that Aled Richards-Jones has joined the firm as a partner as of 1 December 2025, bolstering our litigation capabilities across the UK and Europe.

Aled’s litigation experience comes with a strong focus on patents and in particular life sciences patent and SPC litigation. He has acted in several high-profile patent cases in the High Court and Court of Appeal involving pharmaceuticals, biotech and medical devices, including in what is now the leading Court of Appeal case on the UK law of insufficiency. Aled has extensive experience managing parallel patent litigation across Europe, the US and further afield, involving both small molecules and biologics and interrelated issues of IP and regulatory law.

Aled’s expertise also extends across the wider spectrum of IP law, having acted in several copyright, trade mark and trade secrets cases before the High Court, Court of Appeal, the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court and the UKIPO.

By welcoming Aled, we reinforce our commitment to expanding our litigation capabilities and supporting clients through the new era of European patent litigation under the UPC.

Aled joins the firm following the recent hire of partner Camilla Balleny, an accomplished litigator with almost two decades of experience, who joined Mewburn Ellis as the firm’s first Head of Patent Litigation. The litigation team was further strengthened with the addition of Amy Crouch, who has expertise in high-profile patent cases, including the UK’s first gene therapy patent trial.

Additionally, the firm recently welcomed Susannah Dragosavac, a digital health and med-tech specialist, further enhancing the firm’s ability to support clients in these rapidly evolving sectors.

Commenting on the appointment, Chairperson Richard Johnson said:

“We’re thrilled to welcome Aled. His arrival underscores our commitment to expanding our international litigation practice, a key area of growth for the firm.

With his extensive experience and reputation as trusted adviser in complex patent disputes and cross-border litigation, Aled will play a pivotal role in supporting clients navigating high-stakes cases in the UK and across Europe, particularly in the life sciences and technology sectors.”

Aled added:

“Joining Mewburn Ellis at a time when the firm is broadening its litigation capabilities is a fantastic opportunity. The growing complexity of pan-European IP disputes makes this an especially critical moment, and I look forward to bringing my experience to bear to help clients navigate these challenges while working alongside a talented team of colleagues.”
