Genevieve is a UK and European patent attorney with a focus on chemistry, consumer goods, material science and biochemistry. Her expertise spans the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, opposition and appeal proceedings in front of the EPO, and helping form clients’ IP strategies.

Genevieve has participated in a long-term client secondment, working as an in-house attorney. During this time, Genevieve has gained deep understanding of the commercial, legal, and technical challenges faced by large R&D teams, along with a unique perspective on the business motivators behind them. She has developed experience in invention capture and prioritisation as well as developing IP strategies.

Genevieve also has an interest in green chemistry and sustainability, working extensively with the sustainability network Oxfordshire Greentech. She has contributed to articles for trade publications in this area (see Chemical Industrial Journal: Colourful comebacks – How coloured plastics can participate in the circular economy), as well as writing blogs for the Mewburn Ellis website.

Background

Genevieve has a master’s degree in chemistry from Imperial College London. Her PhD is also in Chemistry from University College London. During her master’s degree, Genevieve also performed research at Nanyang Technology University in Singapore. During her PhD, Genevieve won a scholarship to perform research at Yale University in the USA. Her doctoral research focused on the development of DNA origami nanopores for use in biosensing devices. Genevieve is an inventor on several patents based on her PhD work and is an author on multiple publications in the Nature journal group.

Genevieve joined Mewburn Ellis in 2018, qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2023 and as a European Patent Attorney in 2024. She has a Postgraduate Certificate in IP from Queen Mary University.
